"I ran the system in the "satellite always" mode when I was far out at
sea, and "cellular always" when in at port. I was VERY impressed at the
quality and range of the Middle Eastern countries' cellular service. As
soon as I got in to range of a particular country (usually 40-50 miles
out) I would get an e-mail welcoming me to their service. Greece had
coverage throughout all of their extensive islands.
Israel..Cypress..Egypt [worked fine]..way down the Nile river, near
Luxor, the cell service was not existant, so I switched to satellite

Low Cost G3 Fax Solution for Iridium Phones: This is a very low cost method of making conventional G3 fax machines function over the Iridium network. It is possible to transmit faxes completely over the Iridium network or send and receive faxes between the public switched telephone network and the Iridium network. The fax adapter has been certified for use with the Iridium 9505A (data kit required), BEAM RST100, and selected other Iridium equipment.Easy to Use: Using a fax machine on the Iridium network is as easy as using it in your office. Simply plug your fax machine into our fax adapter, connect the fax adapter to the Iridium phone's serial data port (requires data kit) and push the send button. There is a fax size limit of 10 pages. US Number For Receiving Inbound Faxes on Your Iridium: The fax adapter lets you both send and receive faxes on your Iridium phone. Your friends and associates can send you a fax using their standard fax equipment connected to the public switched telephone network (PSTN). They simply dial (480) 345-4340 in the US and wait a few seconds and enter the Iridium mobile number. The fax will automatically be routed. There is no additional monthly fee for this service which is billed as a data call. Expensive international dialing is not required.
